
Located in between the mountains of Pejibaye la Marta is a natural reserve filled with amazing landscaping that can vary depending on the altitude and diversity of the ecosystem.
Where you can find a variety of plants, amphibians and birds. Among the different paths you can find many grades of difficulty. Some of this are better with boots since can be slightly muddy and steep.
La Marta is open Monday through Sunday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm
Within the reserve there is numerous swimming holes, it is recommends only to swim during the dry season since the flow is the river is not as dangerous as it can be during the rainy season.

The place not only holds a natural beauty but also a great history. The first evidence of history goes back to 1870 when the agroindustrial economy begin to settle in this land, most of the history of this place has been collected by worth of mouth and it has been said that the hacienda was run by Americans, English and Costaricans, who run this huge protect within the Caribbean Forrest harvesting coffee, cacao, bananas and sugar cane for exportation.
Due to the destruction of the land and the difficulty encounter with the colonization the project was abandoned and the workers move to other towns near la hacienda.

The old hacienda is now the perfect place to study and understand the enormous power of nature over greed and arrogance, the causes and effects of climate change, practices for restoring the environment and achieving social development in harmony with nature.
Another great thing of La Marta Wildlife Refuge is that there is options to spend the night at this beautiful place such as camping and at the hostel. Meals can also be purchase on site as well as renting tents.
