Alajuela

Alajuela is located in the northern part of the country. It has an area of 9753 km²

The territory of the province is mostly flat in the north, surrounded by elevation of mountains ranges. Three important volcanic peaks of the country are also located in this territory: the Poás volcano, the Arenal volcano and the Rincón de la Vieja volcano. The province has four national parks and an indigenous reserve in Guatuso, inhabited by the Maléku ethnic group.

In the Province of Alajuela there are several national parks Poás Volcano, Arenal Volcano, Tenorio Volcano, Rincón de la Vieja Volcano, Juan Castro Blanco and others, the National wildlife reserve Caño Negro, five protective zones and several forest reserves. .
