MONTE SKY

One of the most notable activities in the Cartago province is a visit to Monte Sky, a private nature reserve featuring an impressive 200 foot waterfall. Monte Sky is owned by Billy Montero, a friendly local gentleman who takes care of his property like a national park. Beautiful plants and breathtaking views are everywhere you look.

As is the case everywhere in the region, the fresh air and year round spring-like climate are a joy to behold. As Monte Sky is over 1300 acres in size and gets fewer visitors than Tapanti National Park, you will be able to have a more secluded experience, hearing only the sound of the birds chirping. Home to almost 300 species, Monte Sky is a bird lover’s paradise.

For those who enjoy hiking, there is a small hostel on top of the first hill. Monte Sky also offers the option of camping for those who prefer sleeping outdoors. There are also multiple trails you can explore inside the park. You can opt for a guide if needed and birding tours can also be arranged.

Monte Sky is open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the $8 daily admission charge represents an excellent value. Guests are strongly advised to call ahead (8382-7502) to ensure there is an employee present at the kiosk to admit you.
